Scriven was an important army camp and accommodated battalions of infantry, armour and paratroops at various times during the war years. Troops arrived at Scriven after being evacuated from Dunkirk and fighting at Arnhem. The camp was visited by a number of well-known figures, notably Lt. General Sir Alan Brooke, Major-General Percy Hobart, General Bernard Montgomery and Prime Minister, Winston Churchill ..... and the actor (Lieut) Richard Greene (Robin Hood in the TV series of that name) who trained here with his regiment, the 27th Lancers. | |
