DateWar DiaryNotes
1 - 31 The activities reported in the War Diary for August were continued on a reduced scale.
The German Wehrmacht organisation was reduced further although a German Labour Company under Pioneer Control was brough into the Kreis for the establishment of a large fuel dump and the Kommandant was allowed to form a small wood-cutting company. No incidents with these troops were reported.
By the beginning of the month there remained 300 Polish PWX and 1,000 Baltic DPs. All DPs were now a driect UNRRA responsibility although as much assistance as possible was provided in the way of transport, welfare and the repair of camps which was done by German labour under the direction of this HQ.
The major event in the life of the Regiment consisted in the loss of Lieut/Colonel R.P. Harding, DSO, who had commanded in training and battle for 4 years and to whose popular and efficient command the successes of the unit had largely been due. He was fortunately succeeded by the Second-in-Comand, Major C.H. Blacker, MC, on September 30th.

The chief military activities continued in the form of lorried patrols, snap checks and road blocks. The manning of Area "G" boundary continued.

The Brigade Sports Meeting took place on September 17th on the Regimental Sports Foeld and was won by the Regiment after a close tussle with the 8th RB. Holiday parties of 40 each continued to visit Fohr Island until the middle of the month.
