George emigrated to Australia on 6 Mar 1951, sailing from Southampton to Melbourne aboard HMT 'Asturias'.

His elder brother Harry (born 8 Jul 1916) had been 3rd. Engineering Officer aboard s.s.Kantara. He was taken prisoner by the Germans on 22 Feb 1941. He died on 18 Jun 1945 shortly after his repatriation to England and was buried in Prescot Cemetery, Lancashire; Grave Sec. 6, 109.
